I’m so excited to share this layout because it’s the first layout I’ve ever created using a page kit that I put together myself! I’ve been following nicolejones911 for some time now and she is big on making her own page kits and I finally decided to try it out for myself. If you’re unfamiliar with nicolejones911 or her method you can check it out here. I was hesitant at first because I wasn’t sure I would be able to create something that matched my pictures or page theme when the time came but as you can see here everything worked perfectly. I strongly recommend you give this a try.
For this layout I started with the beautiful pink floral paper from American Crafts, I can’t remember the collection name but I know I purchased it from the loose paper bins at JOANN’s. The next sheet of paper I picked was the herringbone wood background paper which pulls out a lot of the brown in the pink floral paper. I’m not really a pink type of person so when I use pink paper I usually link to match it with a more neutral secondary paper. After I had those two 12x12 papers I moved into my scrap pieces of paper, which I have organized by color, and pulled the pinks and browns. The cream paper with pink text on it was a paper I’ve been hoarding for a while now and it’s from DCWV Haute Pink paper pad. Although the pinks weren’t a perfect match they still complimented each other well and the cream fit nicely with the brown. The final sheet of paper I grabbed was just a craft sheet of cardstock.
After I had the papers selected I moved on to the embellishments. Now I don’t have a lot of embellishments so when I put this kit together I tried to add as many things as I could that I thought would match. I took at my chipboard collection and found that piece I placed my title on. I also looked through my pink and brown and natural collections and found the other pieces you see on the page, basically everything except the “Dream Big” sticker, the “Work hard & Dream Big” sticker and the circular piece you see peaking from behind the bird in the lower right. After that I knew I most likely wouldn’t have enough to complete an entire page but I had a good enough starting place.
The following day I looked through my pictures keeping in mind that I had these pink and brown papers ready to go. I came across three potential options but in the end picked the ones you see because I liked the way the two skinner portrait photos fit on top of the landscape picture and thought that would fit perfect on top of the pink and cream text paper that I love so much and wouldn’t have to cut down any smaller. After that I felt pretty good with how easy that was and the rest of the page flew together. I knew I was going to need to add more embellishments so I started thinking about a 3rd color I could incorporate. The turquoise blue worked nicely with the striped shirt I’m wearing and I know I had some thickers that would match for a title. The cream and pink text paper looked a little clutter next to the floral paper so the craft was a great addition to break those pieces up. After I arrange the papers the way I liked them I separated out the embellishment’s into three piles trying to evenly divide the various sizes and colors. Next I sorted through my blue embellishment stash and pulled some of the final things. After that it was just a matter of placing the piles or cluster on the page. I was really happy with the final results and so happy that I used almost everything I had set aside for this layout. The only thing I had left over was the other half of the American Crafts floral paper but it’s a nice size that I have left over that I will definitely be able to use on another layout.
